The Pulse Barryvox avalanche transceiver from Mammut is easy, fast and effective.
Designed for first response, the Barryvox optimises rescue efforts during the first 20 minutes after an avalanche occurs - while there is a crucial 80% chance of survival.
Thanks to
clear multi-lingual instructions (with a choice of eight languages), a handy
training CD, the
LCD display with backlight, and
intuitive menu the Pulse Barryvox is simple to use and easy to read in an emergency. It also features
two user profiles for basic and advanced users.
The
three antennas make for quick and precise location of victims, while the
real-time 360-degree directional arrow leads you along the shortest path to the site of a burial.
The Barryvox can be used in
analogue mode emmiting an
acoustic signal via the
inbuilt speaker or
headphone jack to help you locate a victim. This is useful when you know there is just one victim buried and also increases range.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) can differentiate between up to eight signals at once, even when victims are in close proximity to each other. The Barryvox gives you the option to chose which signals to follow - automatic mode will automatically select a victim based on distance and survivability criteria or you can manually select a signal to track. This clever transceiver will even tell you which signals are already being tracked by other Barryvox users - making a search with multiple rescuers extremely efficient.
In the case of multiple burials the Barryvox will
mark the location and depth of burial sites once they are located, giving you a clear overview of the area using the
MapView function.
3D motion sensors detect and record the vital signs of victims from the time of burial, allowing you to perform rapid pre-search triage in the event of an avalanche and prioritize between victims.
If you are the person being buried your unit will
automatically switch from detection mode to transmit and begin analysing and recording your vital signs, including heart rate. This means that your rescuer can efficiently locate you and assess what resuscitation method is necessary.
For peace-of-mind the Barryvox will do a
power-on self-check and before your tour, or during if required, you can perform a
full group function check. The
battery life monitor will remind you to replace the batteries if power is low, so don't forget to pack a spare set! Although, by using the
unique locking power switch, you should be able to prevent the unit from turning itself on accidentally.
In difficult conditions the
adjustable wrist strap can be secured with a clip-fix and the
non-slip rubber buttons make the Barryvox easy to operate whilst wearing gloves. Just in case you do drop your Pulse Barryvox, its
shock-resistant casing should protect it from any damage.
The
scalable software platform can be easily updated using
W-Link technology and data transfer with other users can often speed up a rescue effort.
Mammut recommend the Pulse Barryvox for
ski or snowboard tours, backcountry skiing/boarding, expeditions and winter-hiking, freeriding, alpine climbing, snowshoeing, ice-climbing, alpine skiing, professional rescue or
guide work. It is even suitable for
Nordic skiing or
Polar expeditions!
An essential tool for anyone who engages in snow related activities where the potential threat of an avalanche exists.
