Pieps Rider 10 Jetforce Airbag
The PIEPS RIDER the smallest bag from the Pieps Jetforce range. Weighing only 3300g and made of exceptionally lightweight 315d Cordura® airbag-fiber technology, which offers exceptional strength and durability, this bag is ideal for off-piste skiers looking to minimise extra weight.
The Jet Force is the first Avalanche Safety technology to use jet-fan inflation. This is a innovative new system that inflates airbags by drawing air from the atmosphere around rather than relying on gas canisters.
This battery-powered system is capable of inflating the pack's airbags in just 3.5 seconds, and after 3 minutes the 200l bags then deflate to create an air pocket to aid rescue. Another advantage of this system is that it is reusable without requiring any replacement parts or canisters, and the airbags are easy pack back inside the bags.
JetForce’s repackable airbag and fully rechargeable electronics system provide zero-cost user practice and travel-friendly performance.
To design the JetForce custom electronics, Black Diamond turned to PIEPS, leaders in digital avalanche transceivers. PIEPS applied their digital expertise to the engineering of JetForce’s electrical systems, from the ‘good-to-go’ self-diagnosis on startup to the system-status LED monitors mounted in the trigger
The jet force is built into the backpack and is not interchangeable like the ABS System
Airbag Filling Time
Fan timing is controlled by the electronics, here is how it cycles:
- 0-9 secs: Mandatory Fill
During the first 3.5 seconds, the airbag fills 100%. For the next 5.5 seconds, the system continues to run at full speed for safety redundancy.
- 10-60 secs: Active Performance
The system pulses between full speed and 50% speed. Since this is the most likely time to be carried by the avalanche, it is most critical to maintain full volume and recover from any possible tears.
- 61-180 secs: Volume Maintenance
The system has 20s stand-by intervals between 3s full speed refilling pulses. The goal is to maintain the volume to aide in visibility and meet CE timing requirements.
- 181 sec: Active Deflation
After 3 total minutes, the bag will automatically deflate. If partially or completely buried, this has the potential to create a large volume of air for breathing and/or extraction. If unburied, this simply helps repack the airbag quicker.
