ABS brings to you the newly developed ABS P.Ride Base Unit, not only can it be activated by any of your group members to prevent yourself from getting buried, but it can also run automatic system checks to make sure that the system is ready for use. The twin airbags are made up of 150l volume and it offers a 30% larger impact area.
Due to the new Twinbag system, ABS has updated the backpack unit, with a lightweight shell Anan an ultra-protective back panel this makes it very comfortable for twisting and turning through the backcountry.

The P.Ride is ideal for those who seek long days off-piste or in the backcountry. The pack is very durable and versatile. It’s compatible with a number of different Zip-on packs which can easily be changed around, simply unzip one pack and zip on a different size.
Thanks to the tried-and-tested zip-on principles, the base unit can also be combined with any Vario zip-on backpack.
ABS Airbag Activation:
When wearing your ABS P.Ride Base Unit make sure all straps are securely fastened, The Activation handle should always be adjusted to the correct height.
Insert ABS P.Ride Inflator
Check that the control module is clean before inserting the inflator. Push the black rocker above the control module down with one hand while pulling the seal sleeve on the thumb rest upwards. Insert the inflator so that the two marking lines match up. You will hear a click if the inflator has engaged correctly.
(A system check later will check if the inflator has been inserted correctly)
Attach Straps and Belts
Adjust shoulder straps to fit your body. The leg strap is stored in the left-hand hip strap flap and you will need to adjust the length. Always fasten the hip, chest and leg straps and adjust them to fit your body.
(The ABS P.RIDE System will only be of use to you if the carrying system stays on your body during an emergency!)
Activate Activation Handle
Move the handle from the vertical OFF position to the horizontal ON position to activate the system.
A system check is carried out when you move the handle into the ON position. The battery charge status and correct positioning of the inflator are checked. After 7 seconds of system checking, the top LED display flashes green every 3 seconds. The battery charge status is displayed during the first 7 seconds. Once you have followed all the steps up to this point, your ABS P.RIDE System is ready for use.
Activating your P.Ride Base Unit
To activate, pull the activation handle and try to escape. The airbags are self-inflating, regardless of whether you are skiing or have already fallen over.
When the airbags inflate, this opens the quick-burst element on the Velcro closure. The inflation time is around 2 - 3 seconds. The airbags will bring you to the surface of the avalanche instead of being berried.
The P.Ride Base unit has been completely redesigned with a robust backplate, comfortable back padding protector, the base unit is height-adjustable and has an adaptable hip belt to improve both the fit and carrying comfort. the activation handle can be stowed in the right or left-hand side shoulder straps. A leg strap has been integrated to prevent the ABS backpack being pulled upwards during an avalanche.
The Twinbag material is high puncture and has tear resistance values.
