The very slim and lightweight BCA DTS Tracker 2 Beacon offers one of the industry's fastest, most precise pinpointing avalanche devices, with triple antennae, instantaneous real-time display and the same easy-to-use interface as the Tracker DTS.
Avalanche transceivers are essential items of equipment for anyone going off-piste but are useless unless the carrier also has a probe and shovel to dig the victim out.
Display Speed
The BCA DTS tracker 2 transceiver has always outshone the competition due to the speed in which it updates the display. Except for analog beacons, every other avy beacon on the market updates their display with a slight delay after the victim pulsed signal is received.
Display Functions
The BCA DTS Tracker 2 search interface is super simple with distance readouts and five direction indicators as with the original tracker, all LED (which some users find easier to read in certain lighting conditions), along with a deliberately subtle button for special mode and an indicator light for multiple burials.
Unit Size & Weight
The size and weight of the unit including the harness is around an ounce and a half less than the original tracker, weighing only 225g, the shape of the tracker 2 is significantly more ergonomic when in a users hand for searching. The unit is also rubberised, except for the battery compartment door.
The tracker 2 has a 48m Search range and indicates direction with five directional LEDs, The tracker 2 performs a simple flux line search along an arc to search for the victims transceivers.
Ensure the transceiver on is on by turning the switch on the back to “on” and notice the display shows you the battery strength as a percentage and then lights each directional light and displays a “tr” to indicate “transmit”. To place the transceiver in search mode, you simply pull the very large and well-labelled tab at the bottom of the tracker2 towards you and the words “SEARCH” are then displayed above the tab on a bright red background.
The LED display will show “se” for “search” and continue to display this if the signal is not picked up.
If a signal is detected, the display then show the direction (via the directional LED light) and distance to the buried victim in meters.
Transceiver Standards
The BCA Tracker 2 operates using the 457 kHz international standard frequency. It is fully compatible with all avalanche transceivers adhering to this standard.
In the case of multiple burials, a small icon will illuminate on the bottom right of the display. If there are two burials within a 5 meter proximity of the tracker 2, this light will flash. The tracker does not have the ability to suppress or flag one of the signals in a multiple search scenario but it does have a “special mode” similar to the Tracker DTS 1.
The “special mode” effectively narrows the reception arc from 360 degrees to only 75 degrees in front and behind you.
In a multiple burial situation, you should locate your first victim,
-then press and hold the special mode button until the display shows “Sp”
-then you can detect the additional victims within the reduced 75 degrees.
-Their direction and distance will be alternately displayed.
To locate other victims not in the initial 75 degrees you must rotate the beacon 360 degrees to view each subject's distance and direction.
To switch back to transmit mode simply press and hold the special mode button until “Se” is displayed on the display screen.
Three AAA/LR03 Alkaline batteries (Do not use rechargeable), Lithium, Oxyride, Powerpix or any other non-alkaline battery
Batter Life, minimum 1 hour in search mode after 200 hours in transmit mode (approximately 250 hours in transmit only or 50 hours in search only).
The BCA DTS Tracker 2 should be carried in the harness provided, worn directly under your outermost layer and switched on to transmission mode every time you go off piste.
Keep it turned on until back on piste.
Limited 5-year Warranty - All parts will be either repaired or replaced free of charge, including labor, by the manufacturer. This warranty does not cover damage to the product caused by improper use or excessive wear or tear.

Return to transmit
The BCA DTS Tracker 2 is slightly more advanced then the standard tracker. The tracker 2 is ideal for those who venture out in backcountry skiing/snowboarding terrain or those who enjoy mountain snowshoeing
The BCA DTS Tracker 2 can be bought in a avalanche kit called the BCA DTS Tracker 2 Package which includes a Terrawest Core Light Shovel & Black Diamond Quickdraw 240 Tour Probe.
If skiers are caught out by an avalanche, their companions in the vicinity have their work cut out. They have to locate the victims and dig them out as quickly as possible. The chances of survival diminish rapidly after 18 minutes of burial in the snow. Using a transceiver can radically reduce search times, thus increasing the chances of a successful rescue.

"What are the differences between the BCA Tracker 1, Tracker 2 and Tracker 3”
Tracker 1 uses 2 antenna. The Tracker 2 and Tracker 3 use 3 antenna. The 3rd antenna is used during the last stage of the search to pin point the accuracy by the distance indication, which eliminates the "null spot/spike" that occurs when the receiving antenna is perpendicular to the flux field direction. This will make the Tracker 2 appear much smoother in the final search stage. The Tracker 3 operates the same 3 antenna system as the Tracker 2 but is almost 30% faster.
The antenna in the Trackers 2 + 3, immediately on start up and then periodically once switched on, balance themselves against each other whilst taking into account temperature to make the directional information more accurate.
The Real Time Display on the Trackers 2 + 3 processes the input signal instantly and updates the display at the same time. This is to prevent users overshooting the target transceiver as they tend to move faster when they get near the target.
During Signal Lock-On, the Tracker 1 displays all signals received within 10 metres and then locks onto the strongest signal and hides the others. The Trackers 2 does this from any distance and will only ever guide you to the strongest signal (i.e. the closest). You can override this by going into special mode however, and the Tracker 3 has extra options of suppressing any of your multiple burial signals in any direction or distance.
The Trackers 2 + 3 have a multiple burial light that comes on to alert you that although you are only seeing one transceiver, there are multiple signals present. If the light is flashing (in time with the beeps) it means the Tracker believes these signals are very close together.
The reception range of the Tracker 2 is greater by 10m that that of the Tracker.
The Tracker 2 + 3 are also quicker to put back into transmit mode in the case of a secondary avalanche.
The Tracker 3 is 30% lighter, smaller and faster than the Tracker 2.
