The complete package for your avalanche safety protection. The Ortovox Free Rider 3+ Package includes the following four crucial products:
The spacious and versatile Ortovox Free Rider 24 has been designed for back protection in mind. The pack offers quality and durability at its best due to it being TÜV certified. The 24-litre pack has multiple features and storage compartments for all your avy essentials.
The Ortovox Free Rider 24 is ideal for those who like downhill backcountry freeriding or air enthusiasts that enjoy small jumps. You could use this bag for skiing or boarding days on the piste also.
The Ortovox Free Rider 24 offers a breathable body-hugging fit which can withstand multiple impacts. The wide hip belts allow you to move around freely when skiing or boarding off-piste.
The SPS Flex Back Protector is made of SAS-TEC protective foam, the eight pad TÜV-certified protector adapts to the body and absorbs impact even in the coldest conditions.
To determine your back length, use a tape measure to measure yourself from the top of your hip bone to the very top of your back just before the neck. Use the size guide image in the image gallery to calculate your size.
Back Length: Regular (42 - 50 cm)
If you're looking for a similar Ortovox backpack but with a smaller volume, we recommend the Ortovox Cross Rider 20, available in the Ortovox Cross Rider Zoom Package and the Ortovox Cross Rider 20 Package.
The reason why the Ortovox Free Rider line comes with the TÜV-certified protectors is that those who get away from the masses and head to the mountains need protection.
The Ortovox Free Rider line comes in three different sizes to offer injury protection for every height and back length. Please see the following sizes and backpack range.
SHORT (S) is perfect for a back length of 36 - 44cm and a height of approx. 150 - 175cm.
Ortovox Free Rider 14 S - SHORT
Ortovox Free Rider 22 S - SHORT
REGULAR for a back length of 42 - 50cm and a height of approx. 170 - 195cm.
Ortovox Free Rider 16 - REGULAR
Ortovox Free Rider 24 - REGULAR
LONG (L) for a back length of 47 - 55cm and a height of approx. 180 - 195cm. The wide wraparound hip strap ensures the protector fits perfectly - especially when it matters most.

This user-friendly Ortovox 3+ Transceiver incorporates the patented Smart Antenna technology utilising intelligent mobile position recognition technology. This analyses the position of the 3+'s three antennas and automatically identifies the optimal transmission antenna.
Since 2013, the Ortovox 3+ Transceiver can now be updated to ensure you get every benefit from Ortovox's continuous development.
The Ortovox 3+ Transceiver has been an award-winning best buy transceiver since 2011, reviewed by Outdoor Gear Lab.
The circular and precise illuminated real-time display screen clearly indicates the position and distance to the buried victim with directional arrows enabling you to proceed in the right direction (also visible on the readout is the battery consumption).
The precision and accuracy of this device reduce the time taken to locate the buried victim, thus maximising the likelihood of a successful rescue. There is also a large safety switch-back to transmit mode button in case of a follow-up avalanche scenario.
The 3+ is ideal for multiple burials with an overview of the number of victims displayed. After retrieving a victim, there is an option to blend out their signal with the pin key (the 3+ then shows that victim as pinned) allowing you to move on to rescue the remaining victims.
Practicality durable ergonomic rubberised housing safely protects the transceiver from the elements, while the light-up display and optimised acoustics make searching at night easier. This 3+ is accompanied by an elastic cord for practicality and convenience.
If skiers are caught out by an avalanche, their companions in the vicinity have their work cut out. They have to locate the victims and dig them out as quickly as possible.
The chances of survival diminish rapidly after 18 minutes of burial in the snow. Using a transceiver can radically reduce search times, thus increasing the chances of a successful rescue.
This Avalanche transceiver can make the difference between life and death. When the tracker shows you're within 3 metres of the victim, put the beacon on the ground and prepare to use your 240 Alu Probe and Badger Shovel.
You will be found easier with the Ortovox 3+ Transceiver. The integrated Smart-Antenna-Technology analyses the positions of the antennas in the avalanche.
The transceiver automatically switches to the best transmission antenna. You will gain almost double the range in the worst coupling positions, regardless of the beacon used for searching.
The 3+ is equipped with a RECCO Reflector. Recco helps professional rescuers find victims buried in the snow even faster. The incorporation of a reflector into this device means that rescuers are well equipped should there be any follow-up avalanches.
The presentation of the real-time display is limited to the essentials, making it simple and easy to read. It displays the distance and direction.
Once you are in the refined search area, the displayed circle shows whether you are getting closer to the victim or moving away from him/her. Battery status and the number of buried/marked victims are also displayed.
The number of victims is shown in the display. With the "pin" key you can quickly and easily mark located victims and continue the search.
This 3+ transceiver has been reduced to the bare essentials. With only two buttons, it is almost impossible to use incorrectly. Once switched on, the device can be switched from transmit to search mode using the safety switch. Further search instructions are then shown on the large display.
The circle diagram in the fine search shows you exactly how far away you are to the buried victims and whether you are getting closer to the signal or farther away from it.
The lit display is supported by intuitive search acoustics. Higher tones emitted at shorter intervals mean you are getting closer to buried victims. The sophisticated sound sequence clearly signals when buried victims are near.
The number of people buried is shown in a list on the display of the 3+. As soon as you have found the first one, you can quickly and reliably block out the signal with the flagging button.
The buried person is shown as being flagged and you can continue searching for other people. This function does not apply for the Ortovox Zoom Plus Transceiver and is only unique to Ortovox.
In the refined search area, the patented circular display shows you whether you are getting closer to the victim or moving away from him/her in increments of 10cm. The optimised, distinct search acoustics supports you in the search by a pitch of the tone and volume.
The Ortovox 3+ Transceiver is a small, three-antenna avalanche transceiver with a range of up to 40 metres and has technology that can increase the distance at which other transceivers will receive its signal.
The 3+ does an excellent job of surpassing multiple burials and handles spikes well. The display makes it easier to locate the victim, and the 3+ will support software upgrades to keep it as up-to-date as possible.
The Ortovox Zoom Plus Transceiver is a simple, no-nonsense, three-antenna avalanche transceiver. The Zoom Plus has a single light that becomes illuminated when it is picking up a signal. The Zoom Plus does not allow you to suppress signals when searching, unlike the 3+.
Send us your Ortovox 3+ Transceiver (cost of £5 p+p to return the transceiver to you next day delivery) to get a FREE software upgrade.
Ortovox has now released a new software version 2.2 in May 2018. This replaces a potentially series bug in the version of 2.1 which was recalled early May.

This shovel from Ortovox is the lighter, compact version of the Ortovox Beast.
The Ortovox Badger comes with the same non-slip grooves, high side walls and centring aid in the shaft socket as the Beast, but the difference is in size.
This means that the Ortovox Badger comes in at 85g lighter than its longer counterpart, although both shovels pack down to a length of 45cm for your backpack when travelling.
Although slightly shorter and lighter, it still has the same blade volume (2500cm³) but has a shaft that is 16cm shorter than the Beast.
The Ortovox 240 Alu Probe is a simple but effective choice from the ORTOVOX range.
The 240cm probe comes with a quick-lock assembly system and aramid tensioning cord to ensure it is as strong and efficient as possible.
Aramid is a heat-resistant fibre of incredible strength and durability, all of which combines with a very lightweight.
The 11mm diameter and 43cm fold-away size ensure that the probe takes up as little space as possible when stowed.
Weighing only 200g, the probe comes with a specially-designed quick-lock tensioning system so that users can deploy it with maximum speed and efficiency.
