Mammut Alugator Twist Shovel

Part of any standard safety equipment for ski tourers and freeriders: the Mammut Alugator Twist Shovel's pre-shaped shaft offers maximum performance in every situation and can be twisted if need be to achieve an excellent leverage effect.

The variety of possible shaft positions in the blade guarantees optimal transfer of strength when shovelling or cutting out blocks.

Combine the Alugator Twist shovel with the Mammut Barryvox & Mammut Probe 240 Light for an essential avalanche kit. 

New UIAA standard for avalanche shovels

Effective rescue thanks to a blade size of at least 500 cm2, reliable use in compacted snow, ergonomic handling thanks to a shovel length of at least 75 cm. These properties qualify these shovels for the new UIAA avalanche shovel standard, allowing customers to identify immediately which avalanche shovels meet practical requirements. Safety first!

Robust shovel

Hardened, anodized aluminium and the stabilization ribs on the blade make the Alugator Twist extremely robust and durable. The Alugator Twist is part of any standard safety equipment for ski tourers and freeriders.

Maximum performance thanks to the variable shaft position

The Alugator Twist adapts to any situation: thanks to its pre-shaped shaft and variable shaft positions, the shovel promises maximum performance. It can be twisted if required to achieve an excellent leverage effect. This guarantees optimum transfer of strength when shovelling or cutting out blocks.

How to Shovel Correctly

  • After reading the depth of the victim using the snow probe move downhill.
  • Start digging a trench into the snow towards the victim.
  • The trench should be of the same length as the depth of the victim.
  • This is to allow space to clear previously dug snow.
  • If multiple shovelers are available then one person should be digging down at the point of the probe and the other people or person should be clearing snow out of the trench to allow room.
  • These roles should be rotated to keep shovelers fresh.
